I prefer a simple one

- Hello, are you married?

- No, I don’t plan to marry yet.

- What about the girl your family choose for you?

- I don’t like her. I don’t love her.

- She seems nice.

- But she is very social, and I don’t like the society she is in. I prefer a simple one from a decent family.

This is a conversation on a "learning English" tape from Burma. My roommate plays it over and over again. This is only one of many episodes that drives me crazy..

Even worse was when I read an article written by a woman who had travelled in Burma and she wrote about conversations she had had with “really good English speaking Burmese people” and they are exactly the same as the tape.
